STR/SEG was engaged by the University to provide an assessment of the existing conditions of the building envelope, including the walls and metal roof of the facility. Several issues were identified in our report; we then proceeded to the design phase to address those issues. The original roof system was replaced with a new standing-seam metal roof system. Upgrades to the overall design were incorporated that addressed problems reported by the facility and identified in our report. The minimal overhangs were extended to address the existing “wash condition”, where water and melting snow cascaded down the exterior envelope and deteriorated the building components below. In addition, an upgraded snow retention system was designed and installed to address snow and ice build-up and damage on lower roof areas following heavy storms. The project was completed on time and within the budget allowance established during design development.
