Details of Project Successes/Challenges:

STR-SEG provided comprehensive Architectural and Engineering Services for the Department of Administration/Department of Facilities Development. The primary objective was to address issues with the deteriorating gravel surface built-up roof system of the DMA Readiness Center located in Madison, Wisconsin.

The project entailed a complete replacement of the 45,000 square foot existing roof systems, extending down to the structural decks. Our proposed solution involved implementing a Fully-adhered EPDM single-ply roof system over a R-25 minimum tapered insulation system. Additionally, the existing roof top mechanical units and internal roof drains were anticipated to be adjusted / or replaced to facilitate the installation of the new roof system and improve storm water management.

The Construction Documents prepared by our team outlined the detailed specifications and plans for the project. The scope of work included the removal of the existing BUR roof, the installation of a mechanically attached deck sheathing, asphaltic vapor retarder, adhered polyisocyanurate insulation, a fully adhered 60-mil EPDM membrane, replacement of perimeter sheet metal flashings, secondary drainage / overflow scuppers, and removal of an abandoned chimney.

As part of the project, we have also incorporated MEP specifications and plans for adjustment of roof top mechanical equipment and utility supplies, and roof drain replacements throughout the facility. These measures in conjunction with the project team contributed to the overall functionality, longevity, and safety of the building.
