Details of Project Successes/Challenges:

As part of a larger reroofing project, the school leaders wished to replace the weathered and deteriorating original translucent wall panels at the gable ends of the gymnasium. As part of the design evaluation, it was determined that replacing in kind was not a desirable option. Instead, a tinted glass curtain wall system was selected to bring in more natural light.

Design development included structural attachments, shrinking the opening by raising the sill line, to accommodate additional roof insulation required by energy code, and envisioning fascia trim that could conform to the radius edge and soffit.

Working with a short summer construction season, the need for field measurements and window lead times, especially with unique glazing shapes, also added to the project challenges.
